About my classes

I started my Journey in Yoga almos 9 years ago and transform my self and my life.

I practice and teach both Hatha and Kundalini Yoga. I see my Hatha practice as daily maintenance a great way to work out kinks in my body, get grounded and calm. My Kundalini practice is a place of transformation. The kriyas and meditations are much more specific than your regular flow class, much like an Iyangar or Gosh practice, but rather than focusing on physical alignment, the kriyas are a specific set of exercises that generate energy, organize that energy and deliver you to a specific energetic state particularly one of greater awareness.

Also within the practice are built-in moments of stillness where we sit quietly and awaken to our Self. The breathwork within the kriyas is so powerful that it starts to strip away the layers that veil our consciousness, and in the sweet moments between poses we can sense the fullness of who we are. The kriyas work on strengthening your nervous system, balancing your glandular system, purifying the body and calming the mind.

I have practiced kriyas that have left me blissed out, high and filled with a sense of connection and joy, and others that have provoked and confronted me to the very core of who I am, both physically and mentally. I have learned to stay present and accept pleasure and pain as part of the same journey to health and balance. Our ego naturally leans towards pleasure and comfort. It takes concerted effort and discipline to begin to release the ego’s grip on our consciousness. This effort is the work required to begin to access the truth of who we are, to create a strong connection to our Soul and therefore our Soul’s work on this planet. It is where we start to make great strides toward living as an enlightened being.

Before practicing Kundalini Yoga, I had done some meditation, but it had always been elusive for me. Meditations within Kundalini Yoga are multifaceted. You can do the simplest forms, such as breath awareness or simple mantra, or explore more elaborate meditations where there is a specific breath, mantra and mudra that all work together to balance different aspects of the mind and body. When practiced for 40–120 days, the result is pure magic.

Washington County is returning to the "high risk" category starting tomorrow (Friday, April 23rd). 

Here's what you need know:

Out of an abundance of caution, we did not increase our capacity when Washington County moved from "high" to "moderate" risk – therefore our capacity will stay at 15 students per class.

Please continue to keep each other safe by wearing masks at all times, practicing social distancing, and staying home if you feel unwell.

We know you’re tired of all the rules. We are too! But it’s not forever. Thank you for your contributions to the health of our community.

ABOUT THE SERIES, FROM ISABEL 🙏
The definition of yoga in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali is “to calm the fluctuations of the mind in order to recognize our true nature.”

To do this, we need to work systematically to move stagnation out of our body, balance our energy & tend to the fluctuations of our minds – known as the final frontier. As Mr. Iyengar famously quoted, “the mind is the hardest part of the body to adjust” & for this reason, meditation is called the royal road to freedom.

If you do not yet have a practice, I invite you to start today. In order to bring your mind into the correct & intended relationship with your soul, you must first learn how your mind is currently working. It begins with identifying your thinking patterns & re-organizing & training your mind to truly focus.

Kundalini Yoga teaches us about the basic law in life – we attract what we vibrate. When we are feeling mentally & emotionally down on ourselves, we create circumstances that reinforce that feeling. When you want to change your circumstances, you must change your energy & consciously choose thoughts & actions that bring you joy.

See yourself as a magnet attracting more joy & love to you. Remember, your life is 100% of your doing. It all begins with your mind & energy. This is why the practices of yoga are perfect for creating an inner shift that consequently promotes an outer shift.

Your practice may begin on the mat but doesn’t stop there. It should be continued throughout your day by being mindful about where you are choosing to place your energy. If you are ready to shift your thought patterns, awaken your energy, liberate yourself from negative thoughts & emotions, & access a sense of true calm & connection, I invite you to my Kundalini Series.

𝑼𝒕𝒌𝒂𝒕𝒂𝒔𝒂𝒏𝒂: Awkward Pose Part 3 (see our previous “How To” posts for Parts 1 & 2!). Similar to the first two expressions of Awkward, in Part 3 you are continuing to strengthen your leg muscles – especially your quadriceps. Focus on the cues to squeeze your knees & inner thighs together (tight!) & continuously engage your quadriceps to lower, hold at the bottom, then lift your hips back up in this posture. Additionally, you are fully flexing your knees at the lowest point of Part 3, which might be more challenging for some depending on knee mobility. In this case, try bending forward & placing your hands on the floor on your way down, then over time slowly lift your arms & bring your spine to the upright position.

Keep your feet 6 inches apart,
& keep your arms strong
just like Parts 1 & 2.
Lift your heels slightly.
Bring your knees together,
squeeze your inner thighs together, tight!

Exhale, sit down as slowly as possible,
for at least 10 counts.
Stomach pulled in, abdominal muscles contracted.
Maintain an upright spine
as though you are sliding down against a wall.
Come down until you are hovering above your heels,
a downward slope from hips to knees.
Continuously stretch your spine up toward the ceiling.
Change, take a deep breath,
knees together, spine straight, slowly come up.

Timing: Hold at the bottom for 30 seconds!

Join us for this awesome partnership with Hillsboro Wellness! Angee will begin by guiding us through a 45 minute Yin Yoga practice of long posture holds, focusing primarily on the 5 elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, & water – a rhythmic story weaving Chinese folktale & the elements to  help us explore & settle into our bodies. Angee’s Yin sequence will use Somatic sensory awareness to support & prepare us for the second half of class, a 45 minute shavasana as the clinicians from Hillsboro Wellness, Amber & her husband, Patrick, provide acupuncture to students. Students will receive 5 points on the head, hands, & feet designed to open channels of the body, accompanied by guided meditation.
